The award-winning boxing manager Colleen McAusland is enthusiastic and joyful that the women in boxing are being recognized outside the fistic sport.

McAusland and her two female boxers, Monica Mkandla and Bonita Van Jaarsveldt, have earned the Gsport award 2025 nominations. The Boxing South Africa (BSA) 2019 manager of the year is nominated for the Woman of the category alongside Akhona Poswayo and SA surfing champion Dr Roxy Davis. Mkandla and Van Jaarsveldt are the finalists in the African Woman in Sport and Spcial Recognition categories, respectively.

This is a second nomination for the Walkerville based boxing administrator. McAusland’s management boss said she is happy that women in boxing caught attention to other sport recognition platforms outside boxing.

“I’m happy and excited to see women in boxing get recognition. It is an honour to have all three of us coming from one stable,” she said.

“I was so surprised to see my name on SABC 1 when the finalists were announced. It is an honour to rub shoulders with such phenomenal women in all sporting codes. I’m happy to see women in boxing are being recognized. Thank you, Gsport, for Girlz.

“We work so hard as women in boxing. We constantly have to work hard to get opportunities, recognition, and support.
I think we’ve made history for women in boxing, being three females in three different categories from the same stable.

“Being named a finalist alongside my stable-mates is far more than a personal milestone. It signal’s a turning point for South African professional boxing. The recognition shows that our women’s division is producing world-class athletes right here at home, and it affirms that the grassroots investment we are making, better coaching, better management, better fight opportunities, and a culture of accountability, is actually paying off. It tells young girls that boxing is a safe, empowering space where they can dream big. It also gives promoters and sponsors proof that women’s bouts can draw audiences and deliver value; and it reminds the broader boxing community that when we nurture talent with integrity, Boxing wins,” said McAusland.

McAusland, who has been contributing immensely to the development of boxing in South Africa. And also being instrumental in ensuring that women boxing gets recognition they deserve. McAusland, Poswayo, and Dr Davis are celebrated for their outstanding contributions on and off the field.

The Gsport awards are dedicated to honouring and elavating the profile of women in sport.
